Oudenaarde brown route

The historic Flemish town of Oudenaarde can be easily explored by bicycle. Beautiful views and the tranquil Maarkebeek valley await you in the hilly countryside.

At the Markt you can see the most impressive historic building of Oudenaarde: the town hall from 1537 is on the World Heritage List. A little further on you will pass the eleventh-century Sint-Laurentiuskerk, one of the best-preserved early Romanesque churches in Belgium. The nearby archaeological site is also worth a visit. Here the foundations of an ancient castle, trading post and Saint Salvator Abbey have been preserved. There are also two old windmills on the route: the Tissenhovemolen and Bossenaarsmolen.

Liedtspark
The Liedtspark is a beautiful piece of nature in the middle of Oudenaarde. The park is inspired by the English landscape style: you will see many water features, large lawns, gazebos and standard trees. The Liedts Castle is a manor house dating from 1883 and located on the former city fortress. Around the city you drive through the Flemish Ardennes with their open fields and stream valleys. North of Etikhoven you cycle through the Maarkebeek valley, a bocage landscape with poplar groves, hedges and wooded edges.
