Description
In the countryside of Zoetermeer it is great to cycle through the open polder landscape of the Groene Hart. Here you will find beautiful old villages, beautiful windmills and a surprising amount of peace.
Gouwebos
From the Hollevoeter Bridge, built centuries ago (and often restored), you can take a look over the Rotte, an old peat river. Further on, in the village of Moerkapelle, you will see the monumental village church that originally dates from 1662. You also drive through the Gouwebos, a small urban forest near Waddinxveen where alders, birches and poplars grow in the watery open fields.
Picturesque Weipoort
Above Boskoop you drive through the former peat polders. You can get a breath of fresh air here and enjoy the characteristic Dutch landscape. You will see the Rietveldse Molen, a polder mill from 1648. In Hazerswoude-Dorp you can admire the beautiful village church from 1646. From the Weipoortseweg you can continue pedaling along the Weipoortse Vliet and the many beautiful seventeenth-century farms in the Weipoort hamlet.
