Walking at the Eexterhalte

Just below the Drenthe village of Eext you can enjoy a lovely walk through the Staatsbossen. You will experience the typical Drenthe tranquility here. You will also pass some surprising sights.

State forests
As a walking enthusiast you will immediately feel at home in the Staatsbossen. Here you walk through a mosaic of extensive avenues, beautiful fens and heathlands. It is wonderfully quiet between the trees. With every step you seem to leave everyday life a little further behind you. A great way to relax and catch up with your walking companion.

Exterior stop
At the starting point of the route you will discover some historic buildings. You see a farm dating from 1870. The Eexterhalte is also a national monument. This former station building was once located on the Assen-Stadskanaal railway line, which was managed by the Noordoosterlokaalspoorweg-Maatschappij. The station was built in 1923 and closed again in 1947. Just a stone's throw away you can admire even more cultural history: dolmen D14 is located here. At Snack- & Eetcafé Eexterhalte you can relax and refuel on the cozy terrace.
