Cycling through Maastricht

The charm of Maastricht can easily be discovered by bike. In the rural and hilly area around the'Paris of the Netherlands\\\' you can enjoy nature and culture.

Picturesque Eijsden
You get on your bike at Golf Course Het Rijk van Margraten. The southwestern corner of Eijsden enjoys a protected village view. Here you cycle past Eijsden Castle, the current pleasure garden dates from 1636. In 1672, Stadtholder William III of Orange established his headquarters in the castle in the battle against the French who attacked Maastricht. In Eijsden you see many monumental mansions, such as on the Diepstraat and the old Maaskade. You can cross the Maas with a ferry.

Beautiful Maastricht
After driving through Wallonia with beautiful views of the Sint-Pietersberg, among others, you drive along the river Jeker into the historic city center of Maastricht. You can cycle here, but it is better to enjoy all those monumental sights on foot with your bicycle in hand. From the thirteenth-century Sint-Servaas Bridge, the oldest bridge in the Netherlands, you have a beautiful view of the city and the Maas. At Golf Course Het Rijk van Margraten you can enjoy something tasty in the lounge.

Gronsveld tower mill
On the outskirts of Maastricht you will pass the Gronsveld Tower Mill. This is one of the five remaining tower mills in the Netherlands, so it is a unique attraction. Especially because the building is one of the top 100 monuments. The mill dates from 1623 and served for grinding grain. In 1944 the mill was on the front line: it was shelled and burned down completely. In 1959, the mill interior was rebuilt by the Adriaens mill builder family from Weert.
