Southeast of Epen is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. You walk through the Cottessen nature reserve, the Geul valley and the Vijlenerbos. So a beautiful walk!

Cottessen was cultivated from the Bellet square farm, which has been here since the thirteenth century. Due to the steep hills, the area was difficult to access for agriculture, so you can walk through an ancient small-scale cultural landscape of sunken roads, standard orchards and monumental half-timbered farms. It seems as if time has stood still here. A feeling that is enhanced when you walk through the Geul valley with its flowery meadows and babbling river.

Vijlenerbos
After a climb you pass Camping and restaurant Rozenhof, time for a terrace! In the Vijlenerbos you mainly walk between the oaks, birches and beech trees. It is wonderfully cool and quiet here. In the middle of the forest you can recharge your batteries with something delicious at Boscafé't Hijgend Hert. When you walk out of the forest again, you have a beautiful view of Cottessen and the Geuldal behind it.
