Following old footsteps on the Vasserheide

Near Vasse you can enjoy a lovely walk through the Twente ash landscape. You pass through the romantic Springendal and a centuries-old cemetery on the Vasserheide.

Beautiful Spring Valley
The route leads you through a moist deciduous forest and via a beautiful open path over the Hezinger es, one of the higher points in the area. You have beautiful views here. A little later you walk into the Springendal. This nature reserve is nicknamed the 'Garden of the Netherlands'. Here you can indulge in a romantic experience with the beautiful ponds and narrow streams in the middle of the quiet forest.

Vasserheide
After walking for a while past fields and meadows over the rolling ash trees, you reach the Vasserheide nature reserve. The silence here takes on extra charge, because you walk through an ancient cemetery. The burial mounds date from the period 4000 to 2500 BC. So you are following in historical footsteps here, because this region is one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Netherlands.
