A historical walk around Vasse

The Twente village of Vasse is located in one of the oldest inhabited areas of the Netherlands. This walk introduces you to some historical sights.

Dolmen of Mander
Via the picturesque hamlet of Mander you walk into the border forest with Germany. You will pass the Mander Circles: two former round grain fields that have been transformed into the largest landscape art project in the Netherlands. A unique experience. Just past junction D49 you pass the former dolmen of Mander. You walk through the silent forests on the Galgenberg, an almost 70 meter high hill that owes its name to the executions that took place here in the Middle Ages.

Mill de Mast
In the rolling ash landscape you will pass some characteristic farms. You will also walk past De Mast, an overhead water mill on the Vasserbeek that has been in use as an oil and corn mill since the fifteenth century. It takes its name from Jan Mast who bought it in 1811. On the Vasserheide you walk through a field with burial mounds from the period 4000 to 2500 BC.
