Cycling through the area around Doetinchem

This route takes you through the rural area south of Doetinchem. A journey full of nature and culture.

The Bergherbos
In this region (officially known as the Liemers), you drive through a mosaic of vast fields, meadows, and hedgerows. In Zeddam, along the Vinkwijk, you pass the Padevoort, a former manor house from the seventeenth century. A little further on stands the monumental St. Oswaldus Church from 1891. Naturally, the Bergherbos cannot be missed on this route. From afar, this rolling nature reserve stretches out on the horizon. From the hilltops, you have beautiful panoramic views over fields and meadows.

The Wry
In the hamlet of Greffelkamp, you pass the Havezate Luynhorst, which dates back to 1340. The noble house was rebuilt into a farmhouse in 1788. On the outskirts of Doetinchem, you pass the Aurora, a grain mill from 1870. You are welcome at Brasserie Recreatiepark De Wrange for coffee and a meal.

Oldest windmill in the Netherlands
If you drive a short distance straight ahead at junction 77 in Zeddam, you will see the beautiful Grafelijke Korenmolen standing on a raised platform. This tower mill is the oldest surviving windmill in the Netherlands. It dates from 1441, perhaps even earlier. A great photo opportunity, therefore. The mill is still operational.
