Cycling through the area around Doetinchem

This route takes you through the rural area south of Doetinchem. A journey full of nature and culture.

The Bergherbos
In this region (officially called the Liemers) you drive through a mosaic of vast fields, meadows and hedgerows. In Zeddam you arrive at the Vinkwijk along the Padevoort, a former manor house from the seventeenth century. A little further on is the monumental Sint-Oswaldus church from 1891. The Bergherbos should of course not be missed on this route. From far away this rolling nature reserve already stretches out on the horizon. From the tops you have beautiful views over fields and meadows.

The Wrong
In the hamlet of Greffelkamp you will pass the Havezate Luynhorst, which dates from 1340. The noble house was rebuilt as a farm in 1788. On the edge of Doetinchem you will pass the Aurora, a corn mill from 1870. At Brasserie Recreatiepark De Wrange you are welcome for a coffee and a meal.

Oldest windmill in the Netherlands
If you drive straight ahead at junction 77 in Zeddam for a short distance, you will see the beautiful Grafelijke Korenmolen on a rise. This tower mill is the oldest existing windmill in the Netherlands. It dates from 1441, perhaps even earlier. A great photo opportunity. The mill is still operational.
