Description

The Nieuwkoopse Plassen is one of the few remaining large peat bog areas that the Netherlands once had. You will pass swamps, but also hay fields, flowery meadows and reed fields. Along the river De Meije you can see the almost sixty meter high white water tower from 1932 from a distance. This iconic national monument is also popularly called Pietje Potlood. From the Meijepad you have a beautiful view over the Zuideinderplas. In Aarlanderveen you pass De Morgenster, a former corn mill from 1870. You can also enjoy historical sights along the Kromme Mijdrecht, such as in the villages of De Hoef and Woerdense Verlaat. Zegveld is wonderfully authentic. It wasn't opened up by roads until the 1960s!
