Description

The Kromme Rijn catchment area is located at the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Here you drive on dike roads through an open landscape of grasslands, orchards and historic buildings, such as Amerongen Castle. The building originally dates from 1680 and can be visited. It is nice to cycle along the Lekdijk, while Wijk bij Duurstede is approaching on the horizon. Here you cycle through the old center, further on you can view the surroundings of Rhijnestein Castle in Cothen. At Ons In't Goy you make a pleasant pit stop with a drink and ice cream, after which you drive to the next town worth seeing: Werkhoven. The area around Langbroek used to consist mainly of swamp forest. Due to the reclamation via waterways and ditches, a characteristic landscape was created here. You will also see some country estates here, such as Hindersteijn.
