Along the water in the Alblasserwaard

Water and the Alblasserwaard: they are inextricably linked. This route takes you along several canals and rivers that run through this area. You will also pass through towns such as Papendrecht and Sliedrecht.

Vast Alblasserwaard The Alblasserwaard is an extensive polder area that mainly consists of meadows that are crisscrossed by countless ditches. The winding dikes along canals and rivers are wonderful for cycling. You pass many interesting old churches and farms. In villages such as Ottoland, Molenaarsgraaf and Oud-Alblas you can still taste the atmosphere of a few decades ago. At Bleskensgraaf you pass the Hofwegense Molen, a beautiful old polder mill.

Beneden-Merwede Via the course of the peat river Giessen you drive to the beautiful Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Then you drive a long way along the banks of the Beneden-Merwede and the Noord. In Sliedrecht and Papendrecht you come along quays with monumental buildings and along several (yacht) harbours. On your left you look out over the rippling water of the river. What wonderful Dutch views!
