Along the water in the Alblasserwaard

Water and the Alblasserwaard: they are inextricably linked. This route takes you along some of the canals and rivers that run through this area. You will also pass through towns such as Papendrecht and Sliedrecht.

Wide Alblasserwaard
The Alblasserwaard is a vast polder area that mainly consists of meadows crossed by numerous ditches. It is wonderful to cycle here on the winding dikes along canals and rivers. You pass many old churches and farms that are worth seeing. In villages such as Ottoland, Molenaarsgraaf and Oud-Alblas you can still taste the atmosphere of a few decades ago. At Bleskensgraaf you will pass the Hofwegense Molen, a beautiful old polder mill.

Lower Merwede
Via the course of the Giessen peat river you drive to the beautiful Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Then you drive a long way along the banks of the Beneden-Merwede and the Noord. In Sliedrecht and Papendrecht you will pass quays with monumental buildings and several (marina) harbours. On your left you look out over the rippling water of the river. What wonderful Dutch views! At De Krom Gezellig food and drinks you can enjoy a drink and a delicious lunch or extensive dinner.
