A surprising tour of Drenthe

As a cyclist, you'll never tire of the Drentsche Aa National Stream and Esdorp Landscape. While almost every other area in the Netherlands has been shaped by human intervention, here people have embraced the landscape as it was. As a result, the characteristic identity of this 150-year-old esdorp landscape has been preserved. This area is therefore the best-preserved esdorp landscape in Western Europe. You'll see many Saxon farms around the village green, fields on the rounded esdorpen, and meadows in the lower stream valley. In Vries, you'll cycle along the historic village green, with the St. Boniface Church dating back to the 12th century. This route also takes you through the area around Donderen. The Noordsche Veld is surprisingly rich in history. For example, you'll find a large complex of prehistoric Celtic fields.
