Echt is a village in Central Limburg. Put on your walking shoes to discover a surprising amount of history and a beautiful quiet countryside.
Edith Stone
At number 48 in the Bovenstestraat you will find the nineteenth-century Karmelietessen monastery, a building by the well-known Limburg architect Pierre Cuypers. The German philosopher and Carmelite woman Edith Stein lived in this monastery until her deportation in 1942 by the Gestapo. In Echt you will find monuments that remind you of this event in two places: on the sidewalk of the Peyerstraat and near the tourist office.
County of Gelderland
In the Middle Ages, Echt was an important fortified town in the former county of Gelder. The fortress has disappeared, but there are plenty of monuments to admire. Such as the Sint-Landricuskerk, a Gothic hall church that originally dates from the fifteenth century. The town hall at Plats 1 dates from 1867 and was built in neo-Renaissance style. At Bovenstestraat 22 you will pass an old monumental post office from 1899.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
