Enjoy Central Limburg

This route takes you through the varied rural area of Central Limburg. A wonderful cycling area where nature reserves and charming villages alternate.

Iron Man
Immediately after boarding you drive through the forests of the Altweerterheide nature reserve. Every now and then you have beautiful views over the meadows. A little further on you pass the Iron Man, where dry forests and fens alternate. What you quickly notice in Central Limburg: you encounter relatively few cyclists. And yet this border region is a real cycling gem. So take advantage of it before the rest of the Netherlands discovers this area.

Borgitter Castle
In the rural area you drive through a mosaic of forests, meadows and stream valleys. You will also pass historical sights, such as several monumental nineteenth-century mansions in Neeritter. Just across the border you will pass Borgitter Castle, a moated castle in Maasland style that dates from the end of the eighteenth century.

Old mills
There are three beautiful windmills along your route. First you pass the striking St. Anna Mill on the edge of Weert. This white flour mill dates from 1911. In Tungelroy you will pass... another St. Anna mill. This example is also a flour mill, dating from 1875. At the Uffelse Beek you will pass the oldest mill on this route: the Uffelse Molen. The current building dates from 1800. Its predecessor, which burned down in 1726, was from the thirteenth or fourteenth century.
