From Raalte to the Sallandse Heuvelrug

You may need to turn on something when you drive onto the edge of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. You mainly cycle through the wonderfully quiet forests in the lower part of this national park, the 63 meter high Haarlerberg is not on your route. You pass the Twilhaar National Labor Camp Monument, which was unveiled in 2003. It is a reminder of the men who were deported to Westerbork and then Auschwitz in 1942. The route also takes you through the old forests along the Schoonheten Estate. There is still a seventeenth-century manor with a moat on the estate. All shutters of the houses and farms on the estate are painted in blue and white, the colors of the Bentincks' family coat of arms.
