In the Hoge Kempen National Park in Belgium you can cycle for miles through nature. Delicious! This route also takes you through Zutendaal and past Lanaken.
Hoge Kempen
Belgium only got its first National Park in 2006: De Hoge Kempen, an almost 6,000-hectare nature reserve on the rolling Kempen Plateau between Genk and Maasmechelen. You cycle through coniferous forests and heathlands, but you will also find deciduous forests, streams and fens. A beautiful silent mosaic to enjoy for hours! You will also come across Domain Pietersheim in Lanaken. This castle park contains an old moated castle from the twelfth century.
Picturesque Zutendaal
You cycle for a while on the towpath along two different canals: a nice contrast with the Hoge Kempen! After a climb you arrive in Zutendaal. Here you can admire the old parsonage and some old farms. The Church of Our Lady is a picture! The origins of this beautiful marl church largely date back to the fourteenth century.
