A trip through Bocholt and the surrounding area

Bocholt is a charming old town in the northeast of Belgian Limburg, near the Dutch border. In this region it is wonderfully peaceful to cycle through the surprisingly varied and quiet nature.

Limburg Kempen
In the Limburg Kempen you will find many beautiful nature reserves, ranging from stream valleys to wet grasslands. This route, for example, takes you through the Kolisbos, a former heathland area that is mainly planted with Scots pine trees. Many birches and oaks grow around the Kolisloop stream. Along the banks of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal, the kilometers pass almost automatically. On one side the water ripples, on the other side is the beautiful Lozerheide forest.

Tower porters
Bocholt has a long history. Silent witness to this is the St. Laurentius Church from 1476. The marlstone tower dates from 1411 and was moved in 1910 to enlarge the church. From July 28 to August 5, the 26,000-ton tower was moved 9.4 meters via rails. This happened at a speed of a few centimeters per hour. The people of Bochol owe their nickname Tower Cruisers to it.
