The unprecedented tranquility around Bocholt

In the surroundings of Bocholt in Belgium you can make beautiful cycling trips. In this part of Belgian Limburg you will still find old-fashioned tranquility and ancient water mills.

The Water Mill
Even before you've cycled a meter, you can already take your camera out of your bag for the first of many photo opportunities. The route starts at the Watermolen, an ancient watermill on the Abeek. Originally a double mill, the still existing corn mill is almost entirely made of wood. In Reppel you can see the striking Sint-Willibrordus Church, whose tower dates from the fourteenth century.

Front Luys Mill
When you cross the Zuid-Willemsvaart, you drive through the small-scale landscape of the Sint-Maartensheide nature reserve. Here you see a mosaic of forest, tufts of heath, meadows and fields. On the Abeek you will pass the Voorste Luysmolen, which dates from 1884, although its history goes back to the sixteenth century. Via Bocholt you drive back to Hotel-Restaurant-Forelvisserij De Watermolen, an ideal place to regain your strength with a drink, snack or meal.

The Binker Mill
If you enter the Binkermolenstraat at junction 214, you will see the monumental Binkermolen on the Abeek. The current building dates from 1906, but the history of this mill dates back to the fifteenth century. From the mill you have a beautiful view of the Reppelerbeemden, one of those nature reserves on the Abeek.
