Huizen is a former fishing village that was once on the Zuiderzee. You can walk well and enjoy the special atmosphere in the old village. You will find unprecedented tranquility in the Gooise Bossen.
Port of Huizen
You walk through the woods to the shore of the Gooimeer. Where once the Zuiderzee crashed on the coast, you now look out over the tamed water. On the other side you can see the contours of Almere-Haven. It is wonderfully carefree walking towards the old harbor of Huizen. A little further you walk into the historic village center. Here you can see, among other things, the monumental village church, whose tower dates from the fifteenth century.
A little further you will pass the Huizen War Memorial, a natural stone statue to commemorate the residents of Houses who were killed by war during the occupation years. On the edge of Huizen you walk into the Gooise Bossen, which are dotted with capital villas. In the woods you also walk across three heathlands: wonderful places to clear your head. A little later you can enjoy a drink and snack at the cozy Café Theehuis Bos & Hei.
