Walking through the old houses

Huizen is a former fishing village that once lay on the Zuiderzee. You can go for a nice walk and enjoy the special atmosphere in the old village. In the Gooise Bossen you will find an unprecedented peace.

Port of Houses
You walk through the woods to the shore of the Gooimeer. Where the Zuiderzee once pounded the coast, you now look out over the tamed water. On the other side you can see the contours of Almere-Haven. It is wonderfully carefree walking here towards the old harbor of Huizen. A little further you walk into the historic village center. You can see here, among other things, the monumental village church, whose tower dates back to the fifteenth century.

Goose Forests
A little further on you will pass the War Memorial Huizen, a natural stone statue to commemorate the inhabitants of Huizen who died during the war during the occupation years. On the edge of Huizen you walk into the Gooise Bossen which are dotted with capital villas. In the woods you can also walk across three heaths: wonderful places to clear your head.
