The end point is almost in sight when you arrive at this stage. On this route you walk from Sittard to Valkenburg through the rolling Limburg landscape. Along the way you can enjoy the tranquility of nature and further you walk through several charming villages.
Across an undulating low plain
Put on your walking shoes and walk from the center of Sittard to the hamlet of Windraak. From here you walk across the plateau of Doenrade, an undulating low plain, to Puth and further to Spaubeek. The plateau is about 100 meters above sea level and it was created by the erosion of the land by rivers and streams around the plateau. You then walk through extensive green areas to Valkenburg. You will pass the edge of the Ravenbosch. This hillside forest has large differences in height, sometimes up to 50 meters. You will find an oak forest, an ash forest, two ponds and marsh areas here.
Marl town Valkenburg
You end your walk on the edge of Valkenburg aan de Geul. This beautiful marl town is hidden between the moss-green hills of the Heuvelland. Take a look at the castle ruins and other sights in this city, go shopping or settle down on a terrace or in a restaurant for a snack and a drink.
Explore the entire Pieterpad
This stage is the second to last stage of the Pieterpad. The previous 24 stages take you all the way from Pieterburen in Groningen to South Limburg. Along the way you can enjoy the changing landscape, numerous special sights and nice towns and villages. You can of course choose a few beautiful stages, but you can also fully explore this multi-day hike. It's definitely worth knowing!
