Description
Between Zelhem and Braamt you will find an undeveloped green area that is perfect for a nice walk. Stroll through this beautiful area and clear your head while enjoying all the natural beauty around you. Along the way you will come across several sights that are worth seeing.
Slangenburg estate
The starting point of this route is near Zelhem. Just outside this village you can take a look at Museum Smedekinck. In this heritage museum you can see old clothes, excavations, an old-fashioned kitchen and much more from times long gone. This way you can completely immerse yourself in the Zelhem of the past. Then it's time to return to the present and continue your walk. After a little more than 7 kilometers of walking you will pass the second point of interest on the route: Slangenburg Castle from the 17th century. Surrounding the castle are forests, fields, avenues, canals, ponds and meadows that form the Landgoed Slangenburg. A beautiful area to stroll through.
The Braam Mill
At the end of the route you will arrive in the village of Braamt. There you can admire the Braamtse Molen, a corn mill from 1856. This is one of the few mills in the Netherlands that is equipped with Beckers valves and Beckers noses. The mill is now out of operation.
The Pieterpad
This stage is one of the stages of the Pieterpad. The entire route of the Pieterpad takes you from the Groningen wadden coast to the Sint-Pietersberg in Maastricht. Of course you don't have to follow the entire route. You can also choose to explore only partial stages.
