Description
The fourteenth stage of the Pieterpad takes you from Vorden to Zelhem. Along the way you walk through vast green nature reserves where you hear nothing but the birdsong. You will also find several ancient sights in this area that are worth a visit.
Old traditions in Zelhem
You then continue to the end of the route in the center of Zelhem. In this village the porridge clock is still rung at nine o'clock in the evening. This bell used to be rung to announce the closing of the city gate. That was the signal for the people of the land at the time to go home and eat. This tradition is faithfully maintained in Zelhem.
The Pieterpad
This route is part of the Pieterpad. The entire Pieterpad runs from the Wadden coast in Groningen all the way to Sint-Pietersberg in South Limburg. You can choose to follow some stages of this path, but you can of course also follow the entire path.
