Around the village you will find numerous estates with castles and country houses. This is also what Laren is known for. From here you walk for miles through undeveloped area full of nature in the direction of Vorden. Vorden is also known as the'castle village\\\' as you will find no fewer than eight castles there. Vorden Castle is located close to the end of this route. Be sure to take a look here if you like historic buildings.
A tribute to the Pieterpad
In Vorden, the Pieterpad was officially opened in 1983. The path was marked out by two women who believed that there were too few long-distance hiking trails in the Netherlands. In Vorden you will find a bronze plaque as a tribute to these women. This route is the thirteenth stage of the Pieterpad. The entire Pieterpad takes you from Groningen to South Limburg.
Vord Castle Vorden Castle was first mentioned in 1315. Over the centuries, the castle fell into disrepair and was renovated several times. For example, it was looted during the Eighty Years' War and after the Second World War it became empty. In 2004 the castle was completely restored to its former glory.
