Description

Your route starts at the Beerzeveld Hotel-Café-Restaurant-Snackbar. Beerzeveld originated during the nineteenth-century peat extraction. The fuel extracted here was used by the Twente textile industry. It's a wonderfully peaceful walk from the outset. Further on, you'll walk through the Beerze nature reserve with its coniferous forests, drifting sand plains, and juniper bushes. The Beerze Estate lies at the heart of the area. You'll also pass through the beautiful old town of Beerze, a protected village. At Vechtdal Hooglanders, you can take a break and buy something tasty at the farm shop; the Highland cattle are beautiful animals to watch. You'll continue your walk through the forest and along the Vecht River. The Mariaborch Hut reveals some more history about Mariënberg. Your return route follows the Mariënberg-Vecht Canal and the banks of the Almelo-De Haandrik Canal.
