This route takes you from Coevorden in Drenthe to Hardenberg in Overijssels. You walk along the Overijsselse Vecht in the Vechtdal. This green area is approximately 2,500 hectares and you will find forestries and all kinds of other beautiful nature reserves. Get to know this border area of Drenthe and Overijssel.
Walking through the Vechtdal
The starting point of this route is at Coevorden station. From here you walk through the green Vechtdal to Gramsbergen. This town has a rich history dating back to prehistoric times. People were already living here then. You can view the traces of this in the Info Center Vechtdal in Gramsbergen. Some of the objects on display here date back to 8000 BC. In 1442 Gramsbergen received city rights. Part of Gramsbergen enjoys a protected cityscape. So be sure to take some time to stroll around here and admire all the historic buildings you encounter here.
Continue on the road to Hardenberg
Then you walk over a bridge across the Vecht to Ane. From here you walk along the course of the Vecht to Hardenberg. You walk through the England Forest and other beautiful green areas. Eventually you arrive in the center of Hardenberg.
The Pieterpad
This route is part of the Pieterpad, the most famous long-distance walk in the Netherlands. The entire route consists of 26 stages that take you from the tip of Groningen to South Limburg. The route starts in Pieterburen and ends at Sint-Pietersberg, hence the name of the path. This route forms the eighth stage of the path. Follow this stage separately or follow the entire route and be surprised by all the beautiful areas you encounter along the way.
