This stage of the Pieterpad takes you from Sleen to Coevorden through the Drenthe landscape. Along the way you can enjoy the peace and space in an open landscape full of agricultural areas. Get to know small villages and relax in nature.
The tallest church tower in Drenthe
The starting point of this walk is in Sleen. This village was already inhabited about 4500 years ago and that is reflected in the various dolmens in the vicinity of Sleen. You will also find a large church in Sleen with the highest church tower in Drenthe of no less than 68 meters high. You can see this tower from far and wide. From Sleen you walk through beautiful green areas to the villages of Holsloot and Dalerveen. Both villages are originally peat villages with ribbon-shaped buildings. These villages arose on the edge of large peat bogs.
Monumental buildings in Coevorden
Then you continue to Coevorden. You will eventually end your tour in the center of the city. There is plenty to do in this old fortified city. At the end of the 16th century and at the beginning of the 17th century, a star-shaped city canal was built around Coevorden and many historic buildings were also built here. Large parts of this have been lost, but other parts can still be viewed.
