Description
The fifth stage of the Pieterpad takes you from Rolde to Schoonloo. These villages are both located on the Rolderrug, a higher area of 60 kilometers long that extends through Drenthe and Groningen.
Esdorp Rolde
You start at the edge of beautiful Rolde. Soon you will pass Rolder\\\'s Patathoes, where you can eat and drink something to get on the road with enough energy. Initially you walk through the foothills of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape, a lovely landscape with hay meadows and hedgerows. This is what large parts of Drenthe looked like one hundred and fifty years ago!
Tractor boulder
Then you walk through Boswachterij Gieten-Borger. In this vast forest you will find a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees. The deeper you walk into the forest, the quieter it gets. You will pass a heathland in which the Meindersveen is located, a beautiful spot! In Schoonloo you can see some beautiful old farms. You will also pass the Trekkerskei. This 25,000 kg boulder was found in 1966.
