The fourth stage of the Pieterpad

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of National Landscape Drentsche Aa with the fourth stage of the Pieterpad. During this walking tour you walk from Zuidlaren to Rolde right through the Drentsche Aa area.

Brinkdorp Zuidlaren

The route immediately starts well. In Zuidlaren you walk past some old village greens. This environment is so beautiful and well preserved that it enjoys a protected village view. This also applies to the former sanatorium Dennenoord, a park-like landscape just outside Zuidlaren. A little later you walk past B&B Schipborg, a comfortable overnight address on the edge of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape.

Drenthe Aa

The Drentsche Aa is one of the few streams in the Netherlands that still has its original course. In the picturesque stream valley you can see wooded banks, some heaths and picturesque ash villages with Saxon farms. This area is known as the best preserved brook valley landscape in Western Europe, you sometimes imagine yourself in the nineteenth century here. The stage ends in the beautiful esdorp Rolde. At Rolder's Patathoes you can refuel here at your leisure.

Regional Museum The Village of Bartje

The Drenthe writer Anne de Vries wrote two regional novels with Bartje Bartels as the main character. Bartje is a boy with a will of his own, as witnessed by the well-known statement “I pray not for bruune boon\\\'n”. In the Dorp van Bartje regional museum you will find, among other things, an exhibition about De Vries and his work. You will also get an idea of Drenthe's cultural history, including an exhibition about the dining chair seat: the old Drenthe court.
