Description

Hoevelaken is a town in the Gelderse Vallei, an area known for its vast polder landscapes and tranquility. Time to discover this region with a walk.

Young mining villages
You start this route in Nijkerkerveen, a village that arose at the beginning of the twentieth century when people here started to focus on agriculture and livestock farming after peat reclamation. You will pass the church, built in 1908, with its beautiful spire. In the outlying area you walk through the polder to Zwartebroek, also a relatively young mining village.

Turn left at Hoevelaken
The route takes you through Hoevelaken, a town that arose as early as the twelfth century after the draining of a swamp. You continue your way past Landgoed Hoevelaken, a narrow piece of peatland that was reclaimed around the year 1000. A little later you walk into the woods just north of the estate. The route ends again in Nijkerkerveen.
