Description

You walk along leafy paths between the meadows to Kasteel de Haar, the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century. The current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style by Pierre Cuypers on behalf of Baron Étienne van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar. After consultation with the residents, this baron also had the original village of Haarzuilens rebuilt one kilometer to the east. The current Roman garden was built on the vacant land. The castle park was laid out around 1900 in the English landscape style. The baron had several thousand mature trees brought in, so that he could immediately enjoy a mature park. You walk back to Geertjes Hoeve through the polder and past the fruit orchards. Time for a terrace!
