Description
In the border area of Germany and Twente you will find an unprecedented peace. This route takes you through the coulisse landscape in this region. You will also pass Steenfabriek De Werklust, a unique cultural-historical national monument.
The Dinkel
The first few kilometres you cycle through Germany. Just like in Twente, you cycle through a coulisse landscape of woods, streams and meadows. When you cycle back into the Netherlands, you cycle through the valley of the river De Dinkel. You see it meander in the Lutterzand, a rolling nature reserve where you cycle between Scots pines, birches and oaks. The Lutterzand is still an oasis of peace.
The Hague Forest
Between Oldenzaal and De Lutte you drive through the flowery grasslands and deciduous forests of Boerskotten. A little further on you come through the Haagse Bos, a hidden gem. On the edge of Losser you pass Steenfabriek De Werklust, a former brick factory that now serves as a unique museum. In Losser you see the freestanding Martinustoren from 1500, a beautiful monument.
