Description

From the Brabantse Biesbosch you can drive straight to the Alblasserwaard. A bike ride full of peace, space and natural beauty. And of course many old mills.

Biesbosch
You enjoy the view over the water and the pristine grass and reed lands. With a ferry you cross the Nieuwe Merwede, after which you cycle a bit along the Hollandse Biesbosch. Further on you drive into the Alblasserwaard. Cycling along the pollarded willow-lined road along the Alblas, you have a beautiful view of grassy meadows. You will pass the Kooijwijkse Molen, a polder mill from 1866.

Kinderdijk windmills
The Kinderdijk Mills enjoy world fame. These nineteen polder mills were built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. Since 1997, the windmills have been on the Unesco World Heritage List. In the polder you pass through a few picturesque villages that are located on a river or canal. You see old farms and churches. And of course beautiful windmills. The last part of the route you can get a breath of fresh air along the Nieuwe Merwede.
