Compatsch, Touristensteig Schlern, Molignon, Compatsch

As we step out of the lift that took us to the Seiseralm, we've already been enjoying the majestic Schlern mountain on our entire journey up. Today's hike is long and involves a fair amount of elevation gain, but we get a lot in return. The hike begins and ends at Compatsch, which at busy times resembles a sort of Dolodisney World; so get out of here quickly! From Compatsch, we turn left along the Hans and Paula Stegerweg, heading towards the eponymous Hotel Steger Dellai. We leave the hotel on our right and after a few hundred meters, we turn right. We pass the Gostner Schwaige and continue towards the Alpenhotel Panorama. Here is also the "mountain station" of the Panorama chairlift. After leaving the Laurinhütte on our left, we walk towards the Saltnerhütte. The path there follows narrow hiking trails through the alpine meadows. The Saltner Hut is "the last gas station" before we begin the Schlern climb. First, we descend briefly and cross the Schwarzgriessbach stream. At the next fork, we keep left and follow trail no. 1, also known as the Touristensteig (Tourist Trail). The trail is well-maintained and may occasionally deviate slightly from the GPX file, as it is regularly rerouted for the safety of hikers. This climb, where we first encounter trees, then shrubs, and finally only grass and alpine plants, brings us to the Schlern massif. The actual summit lies further west, but we continue along the Panoramaweg towards the Tierser Alp. Take your time here to enjoy the beautiful views. We can also stop for a bite to eat or a drink at the Tierser Alp. This shelter is a popular gathering place for day trippers, climbers, and multi-day hikers. After this, we descend towards the Molignon Pass and, before reaching the pass, turn left onto path no. 8. We pass a small church and descend a little further, reaching the first path on the left. Here, we go through a gate and enter an area with clear profier formations. After fifteen minutes, we pass Molignon. After this, we continue on, passing through an area with alpine roses and the Almrosenhütte of the same name, and begin the last real climb of this hike. We continue through the Ladinser Moos and, at the Alpenhotel Panorama, turn left towards the Laurinhütte. This is the same path we walked this morning, only now, after the Laurinhütte, we turn right (path no. 5B) instead of going straight ahead. Then we walk back towards Compatsch via path no. 10, where we end our hike at the Nordic Bar... ;)
