Description

Near the Belgian border you will find Zeeuws-Vlaanderen with beautiful nature areas full of mud flats, salt marshes, dunes and old polders. Birds like to show themselves in this area. As a bird watcher you really have to go here, but also if you just like cycling through beautiful landscapes then this route is really something for you.

The Groese Polders
You first cycle a bit over the Groese Polders with creeks and then you set course for Nieuwvliet and Biervliet. Eventually you will return to the starting point of the route. In Nieuwvliet you can admire the windmill Luteyn. This mill was built in 1859, but today only the ramp of the mill can be seen.

Windmill De Hoop
A windmill was built in Hoofdplaat in 1780. In 1943 one of the blades of the mill broke off. During the wartime, no materials were available to repair the mill, so all blades and other usable parts were removed from the mill. The hull remained standing, but it was destroyed in 1944 during bombing. The mill was then completely demolished for safety.
