Description

The starting point of this route is LAURENTZ OUT&EAT. Heemskerk was inhabited before the beginning of the common era, which is why the city has many historical monuments. Assumburg Castle, a castle dating from the thirteenth century. The castle has thin walls, it was mainly intended as a noble residence. The Heemskerk war memorial consists of three columns of red bricks with a steel fence. This monument was placed here to commemorate the residents of Heemskerk who died during the Second World War. Then stop at LAURENTZ OUT&EAT for a snack and a drink! Marquette Castle was built around 1250, but had a different name at the time: the House of Heemskerk. Interesting detail: much of the original interior of Assumburg Castle can be found here.
