Zaandam is a special city that originated on dikes on both sides of the Zaan. From here, the city has expanded over the centuries. This route takes you through the center of Zaandam on the banks of the Zaan.

The starting point of this route is at the Wilhelmina lock in the center of Zaandam. This lock was built here in 1903. From here you can walk to the E Heimans Natuurmuseum. In this museum you can take a look at a child-friendly exhibition about nature. Discover more about nature in the vicinity of Zaandam in a playful way and then visit the petting zoo with the whole family. Fun for young and old guaranteed! You then continue to the border of Zaandam and the polders in the outlying area. Then you walk a bit along the Gouw.
