Description
The polders of Anna Paulowna are an oasis of peace where you can relax. During this trip you walk along the water around the Oosterpolder of Anna Paulowna. You will pass the Amstelmeer and the village of Van Ewijcksluis.
Polders, ditches and windmills
From the starting point of this route you walk to the edge of the polder. You walk a bit along the Amstelmeer and then you walk along the water to Wieringerwaard. You will pass the small lake Pishoek, which is located between the polders. Then you walk further to the center of Anna Paulowna. Just before you cross the water of the Lage Oude Veer you pass the mill Leonide. This windmill was built here in 2002 as a residence. The mill has never had a mill function, although the mill does look like a traditional sawmill. From the center of Anna Paulowna you walk further to the village of Van Ewijcksluis.
Van Ewijck lock
Van Ewijcksluis is located on the edge of the Wadden Sea and the Amstelmeer. The village originated around a sluice between the Lage Oude Veer and the then Amsteldiep. Nowadays you will find several locks and a pumping station. Between this village and the Amstelmeer you will find the nature reserve'de subsidence\\\'. This area is named after the soft soil and all the subsidence that this causes in this area.
