Eemmeer
The starting point of this route is at a parking lot on the edge of Baarn. Park your car here and quickly jump on your bike. From here you cycle along the banks of the Eem to the Eemmeer. The Eemmeer is a 1340 hectare large peripheral lake between Utrecht, Flevoland and North Holland. Spakenburg is known for its traditional costumes.
Cozy Amersfoort
Then you cycle along the water to Nijkerk and then to Amersfoort. In this historic city you will find many beautiful sights and cozy streets. Then you cycle along the Eem back to the starting point of the route at Baarn. The Eem is the longest river with a catchment area in the Netherlands.
The history of Spakenburg
Spakenburg had around 200 fishing boats around the year 1890. In 1886, a second harbour was even opened to accommodate all these ships. This boom came to an abrupt halt when the Zuiderzee was closed off in 1932. After the Second World War, Flevoland was also reclaimed and the function of Spakenburg disappeared completely. Nowadays, Spakenburg only has around 30 boats left.
