A varied trip around Veenendaal

After a cup of coffee at the Wapen van Elst you get on your bike. In the Veenendaal region you cycle a long way through the woods and along a beautiful heathland of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. You will also pass the Poorthuis Ruiterberg, a country estate in the middle of the Kaapse Bossen. This mansion from 1950 is worth seeing, but the geometrically landscaped garden around it is even more impressive. You then cycle on to Wijk bij Duurstede. In Roman times there was already a Roman settlement here and in the early Middle Ages Wijk bij Duurstede was an important trading place. Around 1300 Wijk bij Duurstede received city rights. In the center you will find many other sights. You cycle back to your starting point via an old tobacco plantation, Plantage Willem III.
