A varied trip around Veenendaal

After a cup of coffee at the Wapen van Elst you get on your bike. In the Veenendaal region you cycle a long way through the woods and along a beautiful heathland of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. You will also pass the Poorthuis Ruiterberg, a country estate in the middle of the Cape Forests. This country house from 1950 is worth a look, but the geometrically landscaped garden surrounding it is even more impressive. Then you cycle further to Wijk bij Duurstede. There was already a Roman settlement here in Roman times and in the early Middle Ages Wijk bij Duurstede was an important trading place. Around 1300, Wijk bij Duurstede received city rights. You will find many sights in the center. You cycle back to your starting point via an old tobacco plantation, Plantage Willem III.
