Cycling along the Maasplassen in Central Limburg

You can cycle along the Maasplassen in Central Limburg. Enjoy the pleasant bustle on the lakes and admire the beautiful sights in the surrounding Limburg towns, such as the white town of Thorn.

The white town of Thorn
The first part of the route takes you from Kelpen-Oler to Ittervoort and Thorn. In Thorn you will find the Zeldenrust mill from 1877. This mill is just the beginning of all the special sights along the route. The historic city center is full of historic white houses and other buildings.

The Maasplassen
From Thorn you cycle further south. In the charming town of Wessem you cross the Maas towards Maasbracht and Brachterbeek. In the Linnerweerd you will find the castles Heysterum (built in 1740) and Huize Ravensburg (1819). Via the Weir and the locks of Linne and Heel you cycle towards Beegden.

Beegden Castle
In Beegden, there used to be Beegden Castle, but there is nothing left of it. Nowadays, you will find a historic farm on the foundations of this castle. This farm and the moat around it were recently restored to their former glory. You cycle through the nature reserve Beegderheide along the lake De Lange Vlieter.

Grand Café Bie de Tied
Via the church village of Grathem you will return to the start and end point of this route; Grandcafé Bie de Tied. Here you can enjoy a well-deserved cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. Both the café and the terrace are great places to stay. From here you can also follow route 151243.
