Description
A little above Maastricht you can enjoy cycling along the meandering Maas. You cycle through numerous Limburg towns such as Nuth, Geleen, Ulestraten and Elsloo. You can also enjoy beautiful historical sights along the way. This cycling route is made up of 2 loops, of course you can cycle the route in 1 time, but it is also possible to shorten the route.
Sint-Jansgeleen Castle
The first part of the route runs from Munstergeleen to Spaubeek. You cycle past Sint-Jansgeleen Castle. This castle was built in 1567, but nowadays you can only see part of the castle here. The main buildings of the castle were demolished in 1930.
Then you cycle further via Beek and Elsloo to the Juliana Canal. You follow the course of this canal to Westbroek. Then it is time to explore the rolling Limburg landscape again. From Bunde you cycle to Groot Genhout and then cycle further to Nuth and Schinnen. Along the way you can enjoy panoramic views of the higher parts of the route.
Brasserie Abshoven
From Schinnen you cycle further to Munstergeleen and Abshoven. Brasserie Abshoven is the base for this route. At this brasserie, which is located in an old church, you can enjoy a tasty snack and a drink. You deserve it after this active day. From here you can also follow route 533197 if you want to explore the area further.
Geulle Castle
On the edge of Geulle aan de Maas you will find Geulle Castle. In the 17th century a castle was built here, which was subsequently demolished in 1847. Nowadays you will only find the outer bailey of the old castle here. There is a wide moat around the castle and you will also find a gatehouse there.
Sint-Jansgeleen Castle
