Tour of Het Loo and Het Leesten

Your route starts at Camperplaats & Dairy Farm De Grote Leigraaf. Be sure to stop for the gardens of Paleis Het Loo, which have been restored to their original symmetrical layout from the 17th century. Thanks to the natural water supply from the hills, the Baroque gardens and palace park of Paleis Het Loo were perfect for the construction of all kinds of water features. The palace is also open to the public. Further on, you can take another break at the Het Leesten nature reserve. At the Staatsbosbeheer information center, you can learn more about the local iron pits, created by the extraction of slag: a ball of clay covered in a layer of iron ore. The iron in the soil prevents water from seeping away. Water is scarce on these high, sandy soils, so they attract many wildlife.
