Walking route Reigersbroek and Marissen

The countryside surrounding the Limburg village of Echt is a wonderful place for a walk. First, you can stroll leisurely to Reigersbroek, an old marsh and peat bog. Peat was extracted here from the seventeenth to the late nineteenth century. Afterward, the area was reclaimed for agriculture. Since the beginning of this century, the Limburgs Landschap (Limburg Landscape) has been restoring this area to its original state as much as possible. You now walk through forests, past fens and damp meadows. A lookout tower stands in the center of the area. Tip: bring your binoculars! From junction 57, you enter Marissen. Some areas have been forested for centuries. You'll also notice how wonderfully peaceful it is here. At Cafe 't Hingen, you can enjoy a well-deserved coffee and pie on the terrace.
