Description
Texel is a true paradise for hikers. Enjoy peace and quiet on the coast, nowhere better than on the Wadden Islands. This route takes you along the Wadden side of the island with special nature reserves along the dike.
The Waddendijk
This route takes you from Den Burg to the coast at Oudeschild. This village served as a landing place for VOC ships in the 17th century. The traders from those ships stocked up on provisions in Oudeschild and then set out again with their ships. That ensured that Oudeschild flourished. Nowadays you will find a museum in this village that is completely dedicated to the history of the village. Then you continue walking along the dike along the Wadden coast. From here you have a good view of the breeding birds in the nature reserves along the Waddendijk. Then you walk through the quiet polder area further inland back to Den Burg.
