Description
Texel is a true paradise for hikers. Enjoying peace and space on the coast, nowhere is that better than on the Wadden Islands. This route takes you along the Wadden side of the island with special nature reserves along the dike.
The Waddendijk
This route takes you from Den Burg to the coast at Oudeschild. In the 17th century, this village served as a mooring place for VOC ships. The merchants of those ships stocked up on supplies in Oudeschild and then set off again with their ships. That ensured that Oudeschild flourished. Nowadays you will find a museum in this village that is completely devoted to the history of the village. You then continue walking on the dike along the Wadden coast. From here you have a good view of the breeding birds in the nature reserves along the Waddendijk. Then you walk through the quiet polder area that is more inland back to Den Burg.
