Tour of Doorn, Betuwe and Wijk bij Duurstede

This route offers a varied day of cycling. From Doorn, you'll cycle along the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to Leersum. Further on, you'll pass Amerongen Castle, whose history dates back to the thirteenth century. You'll cross the Lower Rhine, after which you'll explore the Betuwe region. It's a peaceful ride here, passing orchards and fields. You'll also pass through the villages of Lienden and Ingen. From the Rhine dike, you'll look out on the right over the watery landscape of the Eiland van Maurik (Island of Maurik). This former river arm was dammed by the construction of a weir in the Lower Rhine. In the picturesque Wijk bij Duurstede, you can take a break at De Veldpoort Food and Drinks. Through the Kromme Rijnstreek region, you'll cycle leisurely to the end point of this route: the terrace of Bloem Doorn.
