By bike from Lienden to Wijk bij Duurstede

From Lienden you cycle into the Betuwe. Orchards, grassy fields and peace: it is wonderful to cycle here. You cycle along a leafy path along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. This waterway connects the port of Amsterdam with the German Ruhr area and is the busiest canal in the world. At Rijswijk this canal crosses the Nederrijn. You cross the water here with a ferry to Wijk bij Duurstede. In this beautiful old town you can take a well-deserved break at De Veldpoort Eten en Drinken. Then you cycle further along the floodplains of the Nederrijn. Here you look out over bird-rich grasslands and old farms. You also pass Amerongen Castle. Cycle into the old village centre of Amerongen to experience the historical atmosphere, before you cycle back to Lienden.
