At De Wellsche Hut you can enjoy a coffee with Limburg pie before you set off. The rolling landscape in the Maasduinen National Park is a remnant of the last ice age. People planted trees here to protect the surrounding agricultural areas against the shifting sand. You now mainly walk here between Scots pines and larch trees. Their wood was used in mining from the nineteenth century. As you walk across the Bergerheide, you may see the sheep that graze in this national park. Further on you walk a long way along the wooded banks of the Reindersmeer, a lake that was created by gravel extraction. You can grab a bench here to enjoy the peace and the beautiful view over the rippling water.
