Description
A large part of this route takes you along the banks of the Linge. You cycle through several ancient villages that arose here long ago on the riverbanks along the river. You also cycle past orchards and through vast agricultural areas.
Historical Beesd
The town of Asperen is the starting point of this route. From here you head to Beesd along the course of the Linge. The noble family Pieck had a lot of power in this village for a long time. Until the 17th century, they owned three castles in Beesd. These castles have completely disappeared, but many drawings and paintings of the castles have been preserved. Be sure to take some time to look around Beesd, because part of the village has a protected village view.

The second part of the route takes you through the quiet agricultural areas north of the Linge. You cycle along the edge of Leerdam and then cycle back to the starting point of the route in Asperen.

The history of the town is definitely worth it. In Roman times, there was probably a settlement called Caspingium on this spot. Several Roman finds have been made here. Around the year 1314, Asperen received city rights. You will find, among other things, an old fort in Asperen that was part of the Dutch Waterline. This fort has been open to the public since 1984.
