A tour of The Hague and dunes

The Hague is ideal for a bike ride. Even Mark Rutte and other politicians like to be photographed there on their bikes. This route takes you through the residential city, through Scheveningen and through the dunes.

Beautiful Scheveningen
There are of course many sights to see in Scheveningen. For example, you cycle past the striking red lighthouse made of cast iron from 1875. You also pass the Antonius Abt Church from 1927. A little further on you drive through the Belgisch Park district, which was built around 1900. This district enjoys a protected cityscape due to the many beautiful houses. At junction 39 you see the oldest functioning water tower in the Netherlands. This national monument dates from 1874.

Beautiful Meijendel
You cycle through Meijendel, a vast and varied dune and nature reserve above The Hague. There is still a deep silence in the shelter behind the dune. A little further on you drive through the Dutch polders with their ponds, ditches, meadows and reed collars. How beautiful it is here! You drive back to The Hague via Leidschendam and Rijswijk, where you also pass Madurodam.

Madurodam
Everyone knows it: the miniature city of Madurodam. It remains fun to visit the former and current mini-Netherlands, as evidenced by the annual number of visitors of 600,000 people. Madurodam opened in 1952, the amusement park has been renovated in recent years. The models are now divided into three theme areas: WaterRijk, StedenRijk and VindingRijk. All models are built on a scale of 1 to 25. Madurodam has an area of 62,630 square meters, the built city itself measures 17,630 square meters.
