From Montferland you will cycle across the German border in no time. This way you can enjoy wooded hills and the German town of Emmerich am Rhein within one route. The best of both worlds! You will soon pass your first sight: an authentic hail cross. According to old Catholic custom, such a cross had to ward off evil spirits, so that the crops were not damaged by hail. In Zeddam you will pass the Volharding, a corn mill from 1891. You will cycle through the wooded hills into Germany. Further on you will cycle through the Emmericher Ward, one of the few remaining natural forests on the Rhine. Back in the Netherlands you will cycle through the countryside to Terborg, a picturesque village on the Oude IJssel.
