Enjoying the sea at Wissenkerke

From the coast to the polders
The starting point of this walk is on the edge of Wissenkerke. This place already existed in 1242, but where the village was then is unknown. After a flood in the second half of the 14th century, Wissenkerke had to be moved. In 1652, the area where Wissenkerke is now located was reclaimed to be better protected against the water. From the starting point you walk to the coast and then continue your course along the beach. The second part of the route takes you through the quiet polder area between the dikes of Noord-Beveland. Here you will find extensive grasslands, among other things. These polders are the habitat of all kinds of bird species such as the avocet and the common tern.

CountryHouse de Vlasschure
At the end of your walk you will arrive back in Wissenkerke at CountryHouse de Vlasschure. Rent a room or an apartment here and spend a night in these beautiful surroundings. Then you can hit the road again fully rested the next day.

Landzigt mill
You will find the Landzigt mill in the polders. The first mill on this site was built in 1826, but this mill burned down in 1868. The mill was immediately restored and the mill subsequently passed from owner to owner for centuries. In 1962 the mill was removed from the mill and the mill subsequently fell into disrepair. In 2000 the mill was restored and made operational again, but the mill has not moved since then.
